Delete your account and your data

You can delete your Cassandra's Compass account and the records that belong to you at any time, and you do not need to give a reason. This page explains both ways to do it, and exactly what happens to your data.

Delete it yourself, in the app

This is the fastest way, and it is the one we recommend. You need to be signed in to do it.

  1. Open your Profile.
  2. Scroll to the Danger zone.
  3. Choose Delete My Account & All Data and confirm.

Your records are deleted straight away, and you are signed out. A small number of records that organisations or we rely on for totals are anonymised so they are no longer linked to you, and your account is then removed.

Ask us to do it for you

If you cannot sign in, email us from the address on the account at admin@cassandras-compass-dementia-care.org with the subject line Account Deletion Request. We may ask you to confirm that the account is yours before we act, so that nobody can delete an account that is not theirs.

Email requests are actioned within 30 days.

What is deleted straight away

When you delete your account in the app, the records that belong to you are deleted immediately — not scheduled for later. They include:

  • Your care records — care logs, daily summaries, medications, medical notes, changed-behaviour logs, activity logs, budget records and shift records
  • Your private reflective records — journal entries, Staff Debrief Toolkit entries, CPD Record entries, Carer Check-In entries and your Respite Plan
  • Your quiz records and certificates, and your staff knowledge assessment responses
  • Your care templates, emergency contacts, bookmarks, caregiver alerts and your community posts and replies
  • Your account itself, including your name, email address and password

What is kept, but disconnected from you

A few records are kept because an organisation or we rely on them for totals. They are anonymised — the link to you is removed — so nothing in them points back to you:

  • Learning completion records. If your organisation assigned you a learning pathway, the record of which step you finished and when is kept so the organisation's totals stay correct. Your name, email and account are removed, and the record is no longer linked to you.
  • Simple usage counts. Counts of things like a tool being opened, a check-in being saved, a page being viewed or an upgrade prompt being shown are kept as numbers, with the link to your account removed.
  • University of Tasmania access and your free template count exist only to serve your account, so they are removed with it.

What we must keep by law

We keep financial records — the fact that a subscription or a donation was paid, its amount and its date — for the period Australian taxation law requires, usually five to seven years. These records do not contain any of your care or health information, and they are not linked to the content you entered in the app.

A few other records are kept for a set time. We keep support and enquiry correspondence for up to 2 years; error and crash logs for up to 90 days; and a record of unsubscribed email addresses so that you are not emailed again. Backup copies are overwritten on our backup schedule, typically within 30 to 90 days. Anonymised totals that no longer identify you are kept, and a record under a legal hold is kept until that hold ends.

The Privacy Policy's Section 9 (Data Retention) and Section 13 (Data Deletion & Account Closure) set out the full position.

If you pay for a plan

Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription. Cancel it first so you are not billed again. How you cancel depends on where you subscribed:

  • On our website (card payment). There is no self-service cancellation in the app for a web plan, so email us and we will cancel it for you. See the support step below.
  • Through the Apple App Store (iPhone or iPad). Open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, tap the subscription, then tap Cancel Subscription. You can also do this on the web at account.apple.com. Apple’s own instructions are at support.apple.com/en-au/118428.
  • Through Google Play (Android). Open the Play Store, tap your profile, then Payments & subscriptions and Subscriptions, choose the subscription, then Cancel subscription. You can also do this on the web at play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions. Google’s own instructions are at support.google.com/googleplay/answer/7018481.
